S02E01: The Laji of Batanes

For the first installment of #TukoChronicles Season 2, we proudly give you "The Laji of Batanes," recorded and described by Assistant Professor Edwin Valientes, faculty member of the UP Department of Anthropology and an Ivatan himself. Listen to different samples of laji sung by two known Ivatan singers, Marta Vaso and Carmen Delatado. Let us immerse ourselves in the Ivatan lifeworld as we listen to stories about love and marriage, death and mourning, social drinking, and self-pity and praises. The recording was done in 2003 during Assistant Professor Valientes' fieldwork in Ivana, Batanes.

Tuko Chronicles is brought to you by the Folklore Studies Program of the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy (CSSP), University of the Philippines Diliman. A new episode is uploaded each month. For more information, follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TukoChronicles/
