This week on #TubtaNabadda we mark UN Day, which commemorates the birth of the world body in 1945.
For this, we’ll be highlighting the United Nations’ role in supporting Somalia across a whole range of other areas.
In the first segment, we hear from Abdulrahman Yusuf Al-adala, Somalia’s Deputy Minister for Information, Culture and Tourism. He shares insights on the partnership between the Somali government and the United Nations in addressing national priorities, including security, humanitarian and development needs. Mr. Al-Adala also highlights the significant progress Somalia has made through various UN initiatives.
In the second segment, we hear from George Conway, who wears three hats in his work in Somalia: the UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative, UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Somalia. He discusses key humanitarian and development initiatives currently underway and how the UN is adapting its strategies to meet the country's evolving needs. He also tells us about the importance of effective collaboration among local communities, the Somali government and the UN to better meet those needs.
This episode is presented by Salah Osman and Faiza Abdi Warsame.

Path to Peace (Episode 403): Power of storytelling to advance human rights in Somalia
[This show is produced in Somali only; English caption of the show context is down below]
In 2023, to mark the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights, the United Nations collaborated with the National Theatre of Somalia to hold the country’s first-ever Human Rights Short Film Competition (HRSFCS).
Subsequently, in partnership with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, the top three entries were featured in a special programme on the national broadcaster, Somalia National Television (SNTV), so that the wider public could enjoy their films.
In this episode of #TubtaNabadda we feature a summary of this SNTV discussion session where the directors share their work, the challenges they encountered along the way, and the vital role that storytelling plays in raising awareness about human rights in Somalia.
In the first segment, we hear from Ahmed Aweis Hassan, the director of "Kiin," which took first place in the HRSFCS. This impactful film sheds light on the human rights violations faced by young girls in the job market.
In the second segment, we hear from directors Abdisamad Hassan Omar and Salman Osman Sharif, who created "Qab iyo Iil" and "Wali Rajo ayaan Leeyahay," respectively. "Qab iyo Iil" explores how clannism limits job opportunities for educated youth, while "Wali Rajo ayaan Leeyahay" tells a powerful story of a girl whose life is shattered by war, yet clings to hope for a brighter future.
The program is presented by Abdiaziz Dirie and Faiza Abdi Warsame.
