Donald Trump orchestrated a coordinated plan to submit fraudulent electors in multiple battleground states after the 2020 election. In Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Michigan, and Wisconsin, Trump’s team—including Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, and Mark Meadows—compiled lists of alternate electors who would falsely claim Trump won their states.
State GOP officials were pressured with threats, misinformation, and direct appeals from Trump and his aides. Trump personally approved these alternate slates, signing letters and directing team members to ensure the plan appeared legitimate. Documents and communications reveal he intended these electors to be submitted to Congress to override certified election results.
In Michigan, fake electors were ready to convene even as state officials confirmed Biden’s victory. In Georgia, Trump made multiple phone calls to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, demanding that the results be “changed” in line with the fake electors. Arizona and Pennsylvania saw similar efforts, with Trump allies creating alternative certificates and sending them to Congress and the National Archives.
On January 6th, the plan reached its peak: Trump encouraged Congress to reject the lawful electors, using both public statements and private communications. Despite coordination across five states, the scheme failed legally—but it left a lasting record of premeditated attempts to subvert democracy. Federal and state prosecutors are examining these actions for potential RICO and election fraud violations.
