Prison: From Prison Officer to Inmate (Part 2 of 2)
This is the story of a young man, Vincent Marks, bold and strong willed.  He joins the RAF and spends 6 years in service before returning to civvy street. There he seeks stability and security, he believes a uniformed, disciplined profession will deliver that and he becomes a Prison Officer.   But some of the inmates are friendly towards Vincent, but they clearly aren’t his friend. He gets drawn into a web of deceit and he commits criminal offences to appease them.   But Vincent is being watched, he’s caught, arrested, interviewed and charged and now he has to face a life on the other side of those prison bars.  ________________________________________________________ Our next series is about the murder of a businessman , a well known character in his community; savagely attacked and left for dead. Some days later his family made the painful decision to switch off his life support. Three young men were arrested, interviewed, charged, convicted and imprisoned. Was this, as one of those incarcerated explains, a time when justice died?   ________________________________________________________ Researched and presented by John & Sally of True Crime Investigators UK. From Officer to Inmate : Vincent Marks (Series Trailer)
This gripping two-part series follows Vincent Marks, a young man once respected in his RAF career. With limited opportunities for advancement, he leaves to seek stability in civilian life, joining the Prison Service. But prison life isn't what he imagined. Isolated from colleagues and drawn toward prisoners, Vincent makes choices that lead to his downfall — he’s arrested, charged, and ultimately imprisoned himself. The story delves into themes of coercion, manipulation, and vulnerability, exploring how someone once held in high regard becomes a convicted prisoner. ________________________________________________________ See photos, case notes and bonus material at http://truecrimeinvestigators.co.uk/ Researched and presented by John & Sally of True Crime Investigators UK. The Murder of WPC Yvonne Fletcher (Part 2 of 2)
Welcome to our 10th case - The Murder of WPC Yvonne Fletcher.  This is episode number 2.  If you haven't heard the first episode yet, please take a listen here: [Episode1] Our pre-season episode is here: https://pod.fo/e/24428f On 17th April 1984, a number of the Metropolitan Police officers were on duty in St James Square, London. At that time the Libyan Embassy occupied No 5. The officers were to police a demonstration which consisted of supporters and dissenters of Colonel Gaddafi, the Libyan leader. It was at 10.18 that gunfire was discharged from the first floor windows of No 5 St James Square. Many anti Gaddafi demonstrators were hit and injured. One of the officers, Yvonne Fletcher,  was also shot and fell to the ground. She was immediately tended to by the officers around her and then removed from the danger. Standing next to Yvonne that day was her friend and colleague, PC John Murray. John accompanied Yvonne to hospital, he made a promise that he would bring those responsible to justice. Yvonne died shortly afterwards. John Murray has worked and campaigned tirelessly since that fateful day to keep the promise he made to his fallen friend. We intend to release a series later this year telling the story of what led to Yvonne’s death and what has happened in the years since. It has been described as a story of ‘espionage, betrayal, terrorism and corruption’. However, John invited us to attend the 40th Anniversary Memorial for Yvonne. It was a well attended event on a sunny spring morning on the street where Yvonne fell 40 years earlier. This short  ‘pre episode’ was recorded minutes before and after that memorial service with some of her colleagues. ________________________________________________________ See photos, case notes and bonus material at http://truecrimeinvestigators.co.uk/ Researched and presented by John & Sally of True Crime Investigators UK. The Tony Spencer Story (Part 4 of 4) - Operation Downpour and the end of the road
Eventually Tony is released to the UK but the police are on to him, he is once again the subject of police surveillance. He goes to ground, he puts together a gang of ‘misfits’, a prison governor, a boxer, a banker and others. But the police have set up an operation to catch Tony and his accomplices. The story is familiar, but how does it all end? Is there an inevitability to it? A well respected barrister who defended Tony at some of his trials gives his thoughts on the man that he knew, a rare insight into the professional relationship that a lawyer and client have. The story has been told in these episodes, largely by Jason, Tony’s youngest son, the author of ‘The Old Man and Me’. But what does he make of the life his father lived? How has the family been affected by Tony’s criminality? And what can he now do to help the forgotten children of those people who commit crime and are incarcerated as a result._____________________See photos, case notes and bonus material at http://truecrimeinvestigators.co.uk/Researched and presented by John & Sally of True Crime Investigators UK.
