While there is no bad time to visit Ireland, traveling over the Christmas holiday does require more planning than other times.
Everything from accommodations and restaurants - even airports!- close for the holiday.
Tips to help you if you plan to visit Ireland over Christmas.
Episode highlights:
- Dublin Airport is closed on Christmas Day; only Shannon Airport has historically stayed open.
- Rental car locations close early on December 24, are not open on December 25, and may operate limited hours on December 26.
- Most public transport shuts down or runs on limited schedules from December 24–26.
- Hotels charge a premium over Christmas, and many B&Bs close for the holiday.
- Self-catering? Stock up before Christmas Eve—shops and restaurants will be closed.
- Christmas markets wrap up before the 25th, often by mid-December.
- Fee based attractions are closed on Christmas and may operate limited hours during the holiday week.
