Juandiego Fonseca Quito, Ecuador and has been training for over 16 years, during which time he studied and lived in Japan for 6 years, where he participated in a Kendo World Cup, and worked on a series of Budo documentary films.

Juandiego holds the rank of 3dan in Kendo and 4dan in Kyudo, and is the founding director of the Ecuadorian Kyudo Association.

In this wide-ranging conversation, we explore Juandiego’s journey in budo, ripe with ups and downs, including his involvement in several Empty Mind Films projects, and the days in Sendai during the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.

Looking towards the future, we talk about ways of improving communication in Budo, and how Juandiego is approaching the subject of making Budo content be more accessible for people all over the world, regardless of their mother language and where they practice Budo.
