The Thursdeighties podcastwill explore memories of, and talk about the impact of, the 80’s - the good as well as the bad. I was 11 years old at the start of that decade, living in my rural hometown in middle America - Geneseo, Illinois - and I was 21, living in Chicago, by the decade’s end. The years between will live in my memory forever. Every day I am reminded of how they changed our world.

Thursdeighties Episode 19: A Stop at Willoughby with Joseph Dougherty

Episode 19 of the Thursdeighties podcast features a conversation with Emmy-award winning screenwriter, playwright, and author Joseph Dougherty.

From Thirtysomething to Pretty Little Liars to Saving Grace, Joe has built a career out of crafting stories that stand the test of time. We dig into his process as a writer, what it takes to build characters that feel real, and the balance between personal vision and collaborative television-making. Along the way, Joe shares behind-the-scenes stories, creative lessons from a lifetime in Hollywood, his admiration for Rod Serling, and how he continues to find inspiration after decades in the business. Also, he hides a secret super-power: The ability to change the toner cartridge in a vintage 1980s copy machine.
