In the tale, a young boy named Setanta shows remarkable strength and bravery while playing hurling with other boys. Impressed by his prowess, the king's smith declares that Setanta shall be called Cú Chulainn, meaning "Culann's Hound," in honor of his future protectorship. This event marks the beginning of Cú Chulainn's legendary journey as a hero in Irish folklore.
