Kim Carroll is an interior designer based in northeast Ohio who has been working with homeowners and businesses for nearly three decades to help them create interior spaces that reflect the unique tastes of each client.
In this podcast series, Kim discusses both the art and science of interior design, including her unique process for helping clients discover what they truly want their interior space to look like and feel like. Kim studied at Cuyahoga Community College, Denison University and Ursuline College. She began her design career by assisting one of Cleveland's premiere designers, and working at the Ohio Design Centre. She spent 14 years at Reflections Interior Design, and 7 years as the In-Home Consultant at Country Curtains.

Basics of Design - Thoughts on Design, Episode 12

In Episode 12, Kim explores the different elements that, when used thoughtfully, will help to achieve a balanced design. Style can be formal or informal, traditional or contemporary, country or industrial, but it should weave a thread of continuity throughout the home. Color, another very personal choice, will influence a room's design. So will the high or low contrast of color. Varying the textures in a space will make the design more interesting. Scale can be a tricky concept to understand, but keeping in mind the human scale is most important. Straight and curvilinear lines both play a part in the way a space feels. Finally, Kim discusses the different types of symmetry which can make a room feel formal and traditional, or relaxed and unexpected.
