Hair can define who we are and who we want to be. We build our personalities on it, our identity around it, spend thousands on it, build careers around it, make political statements with it and are devastated & lose ourselves when we lose it. But at the end of the day, it's just hair…right?

As someone who's been hair free for the past 15 years due to alopecia, Amber Jean Rowan is pretty obsessed with hair.

This podcast will explore some hair-raising tales with extraordinary guests discussing their hair journey & what hair really means to them. From strong women facing hair loss of all kinds, to famous celebrities hairstylists, drag queens, trichologists and hair historians, we'll explore every strand of why we believe hair means so much to all of us.

Just a heads up... this may get hairy!

Living with Alopecia with Anthony Carrigan

In the first ever episode of This May Get Hairy, Amber Jean sits down with Emmy-nominated actor Anthony Carrigan AKA Noho Hank, the quirky and flamboyant Chechen mobster from the hit HBO television series Barry.

In this conversation, Anthony and Amber each share their journey of living with alopecia, highlighting the challenges of self-acceptance and societal perceptions. From childhood shyness to the fear of being seen, they delve into the impact of total hair loss on personal identity and social interaction.

Anthony and Amber share common experiences of vulnerability, including the dread of being exposed and the struggle to hide their condition. They discuss coping mechanisms like wigs and makeup, as well as the liberating moments of embracing their authentic hair-free selves. Anthony also reflects on some pivotal moments in his career, including his first time auditioning without eyebrows and as well navigating rejection from agents. Despite facing these challenges, Anthony found empowerment in defying societal norms and embracing his unique look.

This episode offers insights into resilience, self-worth, and the transformative power of authenticity.
