Chapter 2 Summary: “Open Book”
Bella notices Edward's absence from school and wonders if it's because of her. At home, she decides to take over cooking and reassures her worried mom via email. Over dinner, she and her dad discuss the Cullens—Charlie defends them against town gossip.
The week is uneventful until Edward returns. Bella is both nervous and intrigued when he suddenly becomes polite and introduces himself in biology class. They work together on a lab project, during which she notices his cold touch and a change in his eye color. Their conversation reveals personal details, and Bella is surprised by how open she's being with him—and by his interest in her.
