In this week’s episode of ‘Therapy-ish, we sit down with New York-based therapist and doctoral candidate Danisha Baro, a licensed LPC & LMHC seeing clients in both Texas and New York. This episode is all the struggle of pursuing graduate-level education and licensure in the mental health space.
From the excessive workload expected of students who are meant to maintain a “work-life balance,” to the struggle for Brown and Black students to find community in such small cohorts, to gatekeeping measures like the GRE that keep grad school inaccessible for many, Asha and Danisha dive deep into the toxicity that surrounds grad school in mental health.
Therapy-ish was created with the mindset of removing the stigma around mental health and to help bridge the gap from the streets to the office. Our goal is to educate listeners on new ways to go about seeking help, becoming more aware of where we are, discuss therapy in traditional and non-traditional ways with expressing new ways to move forward in the world.
