In this week’s episode of ‘Therapy-ish, we sit down with Austin-based LPC-Associate Jane Obi, a clinician who specializes in working with immigrant populations as a Nigerian immigrant herself. This episode is all about the mental health challenges common in the immigrant acculturation process.
From the differences of moving from a collectivist to an individualist culture, to the more common traumas and insensitivities faced when arriving in a new country, to the incorporation of faith into clinical practice, Jane and Asha cover it all!
Therapy-ish was created with the mindset of removing the stigma around mental health and to help bridge the gap from the streets to the office. Our goal is to educate listeners on new ways to go about seeking help, becoming more aware of where we are, discuss therapy in traditional and non-traditional ways with expressing new ways to move forward in the world.
