Lowering the bar to entry into this profession simultaneously lowers the level of overall level of competency under the guise of "removing barriers to entry", and that is not the answer to a perceived workforce shortage or any other problem. In fact, it puts the public at great risk. Rick McCarthy LMFT, a veteran of the California Oral Exam Board, knows firsthand the necessity of vetting new professionals in real-world, non-written test environments. He's advocating for returning the bar to its former level to restore competency and protect the public.
