#024 Derek Scott Mitchell

Thank you for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Derek Mitchell.

Derek Mitchell is a young talent who is quickly rising to be one of the most talked-about comics on the scene.

His TikToks have gained over 200k likes and millions of views. Among other excellent sketches, Derek takes a uniquely funny angle to Dutch people and culture which has helped him reach huge audiences online.

His show ‘Goblin’ is described as a dark, theatrical comedy which meets nostalgia. Set in 2007, it tells the story of Eliot, an emo kid with an imaginary goblin who just wants to be loved. Peppered with period details, Eliot's life takes a series of turns when he meets a much older reality TV star and begins transforming into something truly horrifying... the co-owner of a spin studio.

In this episode, Derek speaks about everything, from his Dutch versus English attitudes, to George’s new blonde hair.

Thank you for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Leo Reich.

Leo started performing comedy in the Cambridge Footlights, and quickly made a splash at the Edinburgh Fringe with ‘Manhunt’, a sketch show with fellow comedian Emmeline Downie.

His stand-up career took off spectacularly when he won 2Northdown’s New Act Competition in 2020 and later took his smash debut show “Literally Who Cares?!” to the Edinburgh Fringe. Following on from this, he was nominated for Best Newcomer at the Dave Comedy Awards 2022, Most Outstanding Show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2023, and he was The New York Times Critics Pick. This culminated in a sold-out show at EartH Hackney, which was filmed as an HBO Special by A24 (linked below).

Thanks for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Joe Kent-Walters.

Joe is one of the nicest guys in comedy, with one of the most unique and hilarious acts out there.

Even at such a young age, he is already a master of character comedy. His brilliant and lovable invention ‘Edouardo Soliloquy’ won him the trophy in the 2021 Chortle Student Comedy Competition, where I first met him. His latest character, Frankie Monroe, won him the highly esteemed BBC New Comedy Competition, and the Best Show at the Brighton Fringe this year.

#011 Amy Matthews (from the London Comedy Store!)

Thanks for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Amy Matthews.

This episode was recorded backstage at the London Comedy Store after Amy had performed her new show 'Amy Matthews: I Feel Like I'm Made of Spiders'. George speaks to Amy about her new show, growing up in Essex and her their chaotic night thus far.

Amy Matthews is a young talent on the rise. She is “drily funny and giddily quirky” (The Scotsman) possessing “the stage presence of a veteran”” (Broadway World). In addition to her highly successful stand-up shows, Amy has appeared in the BAFTA-award-winning show Scot Squad and she has written for Have I Got News For You. It’s no surprise she won Best Newcomer at the Scottish Comedy Awards 2019.

#010 Sam Williams

Thanks for downloading this episode of The Young Comedians Podcast where I chat to Sam Williams.

This episode was recorded in the green room before Sam took to the stage to perform his new show ‘Himbo’ at 2Northdown. Sam was called a “good-looking chap” by Chortle in the same review where George was called a “beta male”, but you can’t be good-looking on a podcast, so who’s the real winner?

Sam was the 2023 Komedia New Comedy Award winner, 2021 Chortle Student Comedy Award runner-up and 2022 2Northdown New Act of the Year finalist, as well as a finalist of the 2022 Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year . 'Vivid, inventive, a winning personality... the complete package' (Chortle).
