Weaponising Words: Toxicity and Polarisation Online
Words were meant to connect us, but online, they’re often used to divide. In this episode I explore how toxic neologisms like gaslighting, cancel culture, woke-washing, oppression Olympics, and Karen have become tools of digital aggression. Drawing from my own research, I examine how these terms, born from real social concerns, are now used to shame, silence, and polarise. A timely reflection on the cost of our increasingly hostile discourse — and how we might reclaim language for understanding, not warfare. Listen if you’ve ever wondered why online conversations so often go wrong, and how the words we use might be to blame.
