Today we will be taking a different direction on the show, in that we will not be talking to a past or parent rider but a member of the team’s staff.

The role of a cycling soigneur is one of mystery to some outside of the sport. More than just giving massages they are literally the carers or assistants to the riders of team, helping them with logistics, making sure they are fed during and after races, as well as often being a confident during those moments of solitude on the massage table. In the case of our organisation, they are the backbone of the team with many of them being with us since its inception over two decades ago.

David Geeroms has been connected with Soudal Quick-Step for nearly a decade, helping first as a freelance soigneur, and then joining full time. David can often be seen on the finish line of some of the world’s biggest races, and worked with Remco Evenepoel during his successes the Olympic Games and World Championships, amongst many other races.

David tells us about how he went from working in a bank to turning his passion in to looking after some of the world’s best cyclists
