Kendall kept herself motivated with the image of her and her husband getting on a plane with only a backpack. She bought a one way ticket to Africa with little plan and spent a year unshackling herself from her conventional life, selling everything down to the spices in her cabinet, in pursuit of an adventure. Her and her husband spent the better part of a decade living an unconventional life. After Africa, they found a job in Denali National Park, in Alaska.
