Ep.029: Coleman Hell

In a special full-circle moment, this episode of The Weekly Beat with Matoma welcomes Canadian artist Coleman Hell to Oslo. Known for his breakout hit “Two Heads” and a catalogue rich with genre-blending artistry, Coleman opens up about his journey from Thunder Bay to international recognition. The two reminisce about a long-lost track they collaborated on back in 2015 — a song Matoma first worked on while touring with The Chainsmokers — and how nearly a decade later, they’ve reunited to finally finish and release it: “World In Your Eyes.”

This deeply personal and honest conversation explores themes of creativity, self-doubt, growth, and artistic endurance. Coleman shares his early musical inspirations (bootleg cassette tapes and Outkast’s genre-defying work), his evolution from rapper to singer, and the importance of the support of the friends in his creative collective. Together, he and Matoma reflect on the pressures of fame, the therapy of music, and the liberation that comes from letting go of expectations. It’s an episode filled with heart, healing, and a truly timeless song brought back to life.

The song we made “World In Your Eyes" comes out Friday October 31st, listen here.

We're releasing a new episode and song EVERY SINGLE WEEK so be sure to subscribe and join this ambitious journey of music-making and storytelling!
