Vox Populorum is a blog and podcast devoted to pop culture criticism. We believe that the best way to understand culture is to discuss it. But we also believe that it's a lot more fun to have these conversations throwing back a couple beers at the bar rather than in a classroom. Please join our weekly round table of media critics, academics, creators, artists, professors, students and fans for an engaging discussion about movies, novels, comic books, television, video games, music or whatever else we happen to think of!

e391. Manga-101: Why is Manga?

It’s always weird and oddly exciting when we discover that we have a hole in the things we’ve covered one the show. And in fact, It’s actually quite surprising that we’ve been doing this show for 391 episodes and haven’t devoted an episode to manga before now. Sure it’s come up in discussions about comics and other things, but we never didd a show about manga in and of itself. Well now is the time to fix that. On today’s episode Mav is joined by Manga experts Sean O’Brien, Andrew Deman and Ren to talk about manga, how it came to be, how it differs from American comics and what is the culture around them. We’ve never talked about manga before so there’s a lot to catch up on. Listen and let us know what we should follow up on in the comments.
