Vox Populorum is a blog and podcast devoted to pop culture criticism. We believe that the best way to understand culture is to discuss it. But we also believe that it's a lot more fun to have these conversations throwing back a couple beers at the bar rather than in a classroom. Please join our weekly round table of media critics, academics, creators, artists, professors, students and fans for an engaging discussion about movies, novels, comic books, television, video games, music or whatever else we happen to think of!

e385. Is Flash Gordon a Bad Movie?

It’s been a while since we did a “is this a bad movie” episode. But the best way of investigating a “is this a bad movie” is to pick one where one of the hosts is honestly surprised that there are people who don’t like the film. That’s what we have today. One of Mav’s favorite movies from childhood was the 1980 adaptation of Flash Gordon. Mav has seen it so many times that the honest truth is he really didn’t know that there were people who didn’t love it. So on this episode Mav is joined by Wayne and Flash Gordon IP superfan Neal Jones — who it turns out has never watched this film before — to analyze the film and it’s relation to the greater universe of Flash Gordon media. Do you love the film? Do you hate it? Is it good? Is it bad but you love it anyway? Listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
