Passing the Torch with Trinity and Tara Wicker
In this episode of The Vision TV Show, Executive Producers and Hosts Dr. Alveda King, Destiny Yarbrough, and Day Gardner, joined by Co-Hosts Ginger Howard and Katie Holmes, celebrated the 4th of July with guests Tara and Trinity Wicker, a mother-daughter duo from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dressed in red, white, and blue, the hosts welcomed the Wickers to discuss their pro-life journey, family values, and the redemptive power of God. The episode emphasized the importance of unity as Americans and the sanctity of life from womb to tomb, highlighted by a video titled "Pray for America." Tara, a former councilwoman and CEO of W Consulting Group, and her daughter Trinity, the Youth Programs Director for Louisiana Black Advocates for Life and part of She Leads America, shared their personal story of healing and activism, rooted in their family’s experience with abortion and their commitment to faith-driven advocacy.

Tara and her husband Michael, married for 30 years with six children, met as high school sweethearts and faced a life-altering moment when they became pregnant at 15 and 16. After an initial excitement about starting a family, Tara, influenced by her mother, chose abortion, a decision that brought silence and shame for 30 years. Michael, unaware of the abortion until afterward, described the moment as one where "everything went silent," reflecting the deep emotional impact. Their healing came through their relationship with God, never blaming each other but taking shared responsibility. This experience fueled their passion for the pro-life movement, with Tara now serving as the Capitol Region Director for Louisiana Right to Life, advocating to ensure young women understand the consequences of abortion.

Trinity, inspired by her parents’ story, became a pro-life advocate after attending summits and camps, eventually taking on leadership roles with Louisiana Black Advocates for Life and Louisiana Family Forum. She shared how her mother’s openness about their past gave her the courage to empower youth to be bold leaders in their communities. Trinity emphasized the value of family support, describing her family as "enmeshed" and a vital support system, which she encourages others to foster. Her work focuses on equipping young people to live out their God-given purpose, drawing from biblical principles to be examples in speech, conduct, and purity, despite fears or feelings of inadequacy.

Tara’s journey of breaking her 30-year silence about her abortion began at a public luncheon where God prompted her to share her story, leading to healing through openness. She encouraged women carrying the pain of abortion to recognize God’s redemptive power, noting that sharing her story helped her heal and inspired others, including pastors’ wives, to break their silence. Tara highlighted that abortion does not define one’s life and that God can transform pain into purpose, a message reinforced by her and Michael’s ministry to share the truth about abortion’s impact on individuals and communities. Trinity echoed this, urging young people to surrender their weaknesses to God, trusting Him to work through them to fulfill their purpose.

The episode concluded with a powerful message about God’s forgiveness, emphasizing that abortion is not an unforgivable sin and that community support counters the enemy’s tactic of isolation. A poignant moment addressed Tara’s mother, who, as a single parent, felt like a failure when both her daughters faced unplanned pregnancies, reflecting a family history of abortion. The hosts and guests called for America to bless God, not just seek His blessings, and prayed for the nation’s healing. The Wickers’ story underscored the theme that God’s vision for life and family surpasses worldly views, offering hope and redemption to all.
