Bridging the gap in The Holy Land with Ashley Garrett and Pastor Steven Curry
The Vision TV show is Executive Produced by Dr. Alveda King and Destiny Yarbrough, with co-hosts Ginger Howard and Day Gardner, and Guest Host Pastor Tracey Armstrong. The Hosts dedicate this heartfelt segment to honoring Israel, with special guests Ashley Garrett, Consulate General of Israel for the Southeast, and Pastor Steven Curry, an Arab-born Christian minister based in Israel. The discussion centers on the profound spiritual, historical, and biblical significance of Israel for Christians, emphasizing the scriptural mandate in Psalm 122:6 to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

The hosts share personal stories of their transformative visits to Israel, describing the overwhelming experience of walking where Jesus walked, from Bethlehem to Jerusalem, and feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit in the Holy Land. Dr. King recalls a trip where she traveled in a bulletproof bus due to regional tensions, while Howard shares her emotional connection to the Jewish people during a trip led by Mike Huckabee. Armstrong highlights a documentary, Bridging the Gap in the Holy Land, which showcases efforts to foster dialogue and unity between Jews and Christians, underscoring the shared Judeo-Christian heritage.

The segment addresses the ongoing conflict in Israel, particularly the October 7th hostage crisis, with 108 individuals still in captivity after 326 days. Garrett passionately calls for Christians to use their voices to demand the hostages’ release, emphasizing solidarity through symbolic acts like wearing pins in support. Both Garrett and Curry articulate why Christians should support Israel, citing its biblical prominence—mentioned over 2,400 times in Scripture—and its role as the root of the Christian faith, with Jewish traditions forming the foundation for Christianity. Curry, identifying as a “biblicist” rather than a Zionist, stresses the unity of God across the Old and New Testaments, rejecting replacement theology and affirming that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is the same God for all generations. He challenges divisive narratives, urging viewers to pray for both Jews and Arabs, as God’s heart has room for all.

The discussion also tackles misinformation, particularly among younger generations influenced by social media platforms like TikTok. Curry addresses the Israeli-Palestinian dilemma, condemning violence like the October 7th attacks as morally unacceptable, regardless of political stances. Garrett shares her journey into Israel advocacy, sparked by her involvement with Christians United for Israel during her time at the University of Georgia and deepened by multiple visits and studies in Israel. She encourages practical support through education, following reliable sources like the Consulate’s newsletter, and speaking truth in love to counter false claims about Israel. Both guests highlight the resilience of the Jewish people, with Garrett noting the Hebrew word for hope, hatikvah, and Curry sharing his ministry’s work in Bethlehem, aiding Holocaust survivors, Arabs, and Christians alike.

The hosts and guests call for actionable support: praying for peace, giving to humanitarian efforts, visiting Israel to connect with its people, and advocating against misinformation. They emphasize the importance of compassion over despair, urging viewers to move beyond grief to active involvement, such as supporting initiatives like Curry’s Nativity Encounter project, a Bible immersive discovery center in Bethlehem preserving the story of Jesus’ birth. The segment concludes with a prayer for Israel’s peace, the hostages’ release, and unity among all people, reinforcing the message that God’s promises offer hope amidst conflict. The hosts encourage viewers to stand boldly with Israel, speak out, and engage with its vibrant, diverse communities to bridge divides and fulfill the biblical call to bless Israel.
