The UnWoke Show Season 3 Episode 132: “From Park Trails to Subway Rails: America’s Crime Crossroads”
Two lives, two cities, two ordinary settings—both ending in horror. In Auburn, Alabama, retired professor Dr. Julie Gard Schnuelle was walking her dog in Kiesel Park when she was abducted and stabbed to death. A day later, police arrested Harold Rashad Dabney III, charging him with capital murder and robbery after stealing her red Ford pickup. Hundreds of miles away in Charlotte, North Carolina, Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee who had already survived bombings in Kyiv, was stabbed to death on a commuter train. The accused, Decarlos Brown Jr., is facing federal charges that could bring the death penalty. Together, these tragedies highlight the terrifying randomness of modern violence. A peaceful walk. A simple train ride. Both turned fatal because of systemic failures—repeat offenders overlooked, untreated mental illness ignored, and public spaces left unprotected. This episode asks the hard questions: How safe are the places we take for granted? What responsibility do communities, law enforcement, and institutions bear when the warning signs are there? And how do we reconcile the reality that danger now lurks in both the quiet corners and the busiest public spaces of American life?   Show Notes https://globalnews.ca/video/11402811/ukrainian-refugee-killed-after-being-targeted-in-deadly-stabbing-in-charlotte-nc   https://abc11.com/post/iryna-zarutska-woman-stabbed-death-charlotte-train-suspect-arrested-random-attack/17764197/   Police say man killed retired Auburn University professor at a public park | AP News   Auburn University Veterinarian Killed While Walking Dog in Local Park   Social Media https://x.com/UnWokeTheShow https://bsky.app/profile/theunwokeshow.bsky.social   Podcast links https://theunwokeshow.podbean.com/ https://open.spotify.com/show/27rkGZYhccSF8stUzzGxaI https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-unwoke-show/id1686015698 https://goodpods.com/podcasts/the-unwoke-show-309196 https://www.youtube.com/@TheUnWokeShow/videos?app=desktop   Feedback feedback@unwoketheshow.com
