Dave Arthur Interview, Grandson of ESA/International Wrestling Owner and Promoter Al Zinck
In this episode of the Unofficial Maritime Wrestling Podcast Interview Series, we sit down with Dave Arthur, grandson of Eastern Sports Association and International Wrestling promoter Al Zinck. Dave shares stories, memories, and insight into his grandfather’s legacy and the forgotten history of International Wrestling — the dominant promotion in the Maritimes during the 1970s.
Debuting in 1969, ESA had the big TV deal and brought in major names like Freddie Sweetan, The Cormier Brothers, JJ Dillon, Harley Race, Andre the Giant, and Rocky Johnson. While little footage survived, making it less remembered than Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling, ESA laid the groundwork for Maritime wrestling.
We also talk about the behind-the-scenes drama, the promotion’s collapse, its 1984 revival, and Al Zinck’s later work with WCW. It’s a fascinating look into the true roots of wrestling in the Maritimes.
