We are back from a one-week hiatus after sick kids, with all-new parent news stories! With the news so heavy the last week, all the parent stories have been on the sidelines - so we are here to catch you up and have a laugh together.
Sam starts us off with a fun fact about parenting, and that funny parents have been studied and proven to be more effective parents. Which, of course, opens up the debate to who is actually a funny parent and his request to bring back dad jokes to the podcast.
Then we do yays and nays - with the promise NOT to whinge about sickness, instead celebrating it with Bec doing a double yay - being grateful for the airfryer and spewy matts - two items she wasn't convinced she needed but was happy to be proved wrong. Sam is naying the unfiltered kid cough, but yaying that losing their voices made the tantrums easier to deal with (silver linings, right?).
Into the parent news and the headlines we have this week are:
- A mum breaking the world record for the fastest barefoot LEGO run, running 100m in 24.75 seconds.
- A grandparent in Sydney accidentally took home the wrong child - scary but true!
- A footballer in the States who almost missed his shot at the NFL because his kids were watching Bluey
- Lamborghini teams up with Silver Cross to make a super stroller (yes - a Lambo-pram!)
- The Whitehouse would like people to know Stephen Miller does not play with dolls
- And discover Blankets from Ben, a beautiful initiative by a mum who lost her son and is helping bring comfort to others.
We then imagine a haunted house, but instead of people jumping out at you, it's just full of toddlers who missed their naps. That is a call out to send us your creepy kid stories!
Follow us on socials (and blankets from Ben!) and come back next week for more!

In this episode, we have some wild pregnancy cravings, from soy sauce pancakes to things outside the food groups. Then the confessional has some hilarious stories from parents, including a 'talk' gone wrong, finished off with some parent news ft. Batman!
Kicking off the episode, Bec starts the yays and nays with a funny story showing how the 2yo equates farts to daddy, but nays the parenting organisation trap - where she is now 100 times more organised than she ever was before kids, but now also 100 times more disorganised! Sam is yaying the almost 2-year-olds' cute obsessions and naying ALL THE NOISE!
Into pregnancy cravings and there is everything from anchovies and chocolate, or brownies on make and cheese, to the dust off tyres, dishwasher powder and a krabby patty.
The confessional starts with the mislabelled gummies, and a teenager that will never have a problem after that experience, and 8yo that won't skip bath time ever again, and a talk about the birds and the bees that left a kid bewildered.
In parent news, we share the story of Orange, a town in France, where drug dealers are leading the way in charity work, much to the disgust of the schools, and we ask, What team are you on? Team dealer or team school? It's a tricky one!
And then we have a man stopping burglars in the night, all in his Batman pyjamas!
Show us some love (it really encourages us!) and come back next week for more!!!

This week, we asked for the funniest or wildest injuries your kids have caused you, plus we are back with our parenting confessional and parent news stories.
Kicking off with a not-so-fun fact for Bec - did you know parents of 3 kids are reported to have the highest levels of stress?
Sam and Bec catch up with their weekly yay and nays - Bec yaying their two-night getaway kid-free (sleeping til 9am, anyone?!), and naying being woken up before 6, being reminded of Steve Irwin's passing by an overly curious 4-year-old. Sam's yaying time on their holiday to develop a new hobby (thank you Fox In The Box Gold Coast escape rooms!) and naying how fast it went.
Then we jump into the answers from this week's question about what is the worst injury you've gotten from your kid. We've got some doozy injuries that will make you think 'ouch', while helping you feel at home if you've ever been headbutted, whacked or injured by your child.
The confessional is open this week with another hilarious funeral mixup, a 3-year-old Jesus (no, it's not blasphemous), and a grocery store ninja.
Parent news this week, and we share about one mother who had the unfortunate experience of going into labour while dressed as the Grinch for Halloween! We also share a story from India about a doctor who is making headway in combating the baby gender bias, celebrating baby girls, and pushing for change. That's a feel-good, slightly shocking story for us to finish with - and we will be back next week with more stories, confessions, news and laughs!

This episode is packed with parent hacks, confessions and news!
Kicking off with a random Sam thought about how our kids are going to look at us weirdly at the word 'rewind' - we quickly catch up with our parent yays and nays from this week. Bec is yaying cute mixed up words like bumblegum and double-yaying with the successful use of reverse psychology on the 4 year old. Sam is yaying the kids finally eating their dinner (after a year of complaining on this podcast that they waste food), and naying the unexpected emotions of watching your child walk off to school for the first time (he won't admit it, but he cried in the car!).
The confessional is in full swing this week, but with a few stories that we think are more like parent hacks! Like counting to 500 for hide and seek, or telling the kids they can play on iPads until you wake up (cue the sleep in!). These are followed by some embarrassing parent stories and kids saying the darndest things.
This week has 2 parent news stories, starting with the debate over child-free resorts and hotels, fuelled by France's recent political debates about their culture of child-free stays. Followed by Skibid being added to the Cambridge dictionary along with a whole bunch of slang we STILL don't understand, even with dictionary definitions.
Come back next week as we finally answer the question we asked last week - what's the funniest or most unhinged child-inflicted injury you've received (or seen...)?

This week, we have a long list of wild newborn-life stories and one of the funniest parent news stories to date. From sleep deprivation to wild postpartum rage - there are a lot of stories here to relate to and more to laugh with.
To kick off, we apologize for another Bluey World episode delay (it'll come one day, won't it, Sam?) before catching up with our yay and nays. Bec is yaying getting more sleep cos the 4yo has chosen daddy as his pillow, and naying the kids' funny playground coverup. Sam is naying his new hand splint and the youngest child's reaction to it, and yaying a funny kid conversation about the police.
Then we come to the answers to: What's your wildest story from the postpartum/newborn phase? The unhinged, sleep-deprived, and hilarious.
There are weird dreams, sleep deprivation, rocking the groceries, LOTS of crying, a fair bit of rage and throwing things, and forgetting the baby's name. Plus a very anonymous divorce lawyer and a Brittney Spears meltdown story. Get ready to laugh, cry and feel seen by these stories!
Got a good one to add? Send it to us!
We then have a dad fail, future Matilda's star story that makes us ask the question for next week: what's the worst injury your kid has caused you? (NOT birth-related - you automatically win with those!).
To round it out, we've got two parent news stories with a hilarious camp singalong that Bec can relate to, and the biggest, latest scoop - Frida's new Breastmilk Icecream - just like mom used to make.
Make sure you follow on socials to see the best bits, behind the scenes and extra funnies, and to see the questions we send out for future episodes!

Strap in for another episode of the Unhelpful Parenting Podcast.
This week, we change things up, starting with Bluey news, as we welcome our first-ever podcast guests: the gnomes. But add to that the absolute outrage that the ABC didn't even attempt to get merchandising rights to Bluey and more or less started the show and gave away the profits to an overseas company (bless you BBC).
The Bluey news outrage continues, with the ABC choosing to temporarily remove the Hammerbarn episode of Bluey because, as a publicly owned broadcaster, they can't support a commercial campaign.
Once we get the Bluey Heeler shock news out of the way, we jump into a quick catch-up with yays and nays. Bec is yaying Amazon Prime subscriptions for cheap and convenient parenting supplies and nappies - but naying the hour-plus round trip that is the school run (even though school is 15 minutes away). Sam is yaying getting our hands on the Bluey gnomes, but naying the whole 10 minutes it took for one to break.
This week we have some more school fails and tales being sent in off the back of the last one a few weeks ago - and a few 'friend' stories that we aren't buying. With interesting show and tell and the stories kids tell their teachers, at least your kid isn't proclaiming to everyone that you 'pooped out a baby'.
We have two confessions in the confessional this week, with kids mistaking people for ugly mannequins, and a Priscilla Queen of the Desert mix up.
In non-Bluey parent news, we have two headlines we are sharing, with THC-laced pizza being eaten by a baby and a toddler that bites a cobra to death in India.
Next week, we are asking what the most unhinged and hilarious things that happened in the first few weeks of newborn life - so send us your stories and come back for more!

Kids really say the funniest things! This episode revolves mostly around the answers we were sent to the question: What's the most embarrassing thing your kid has said in public?
But to start, we first apologise for our delayed Bluey episode - we promise it's on the way! And to make up for it, there's new Bluey news at the end of the episode.
With our quick catch-up yays and nays - Bec is naying still doing sleepless nights, and yaying parent wins, creating core memories. Sam is yaying some sweet baby cuddle time, but naying getting old (anyone else see the grey hairs?).
The embarrassing stories kick off with mispronounced words, blatant unfiltered truth bombs, half-truths and hilarious timing.
We wrap up with the Bluey news - and we've got gnomes on the shelf at Bunnings! (Bunnings = Australia's hardware store that Hammerbarn is modelled off) Of course, they are likely already sold out as we record this, and they are already appearing online for four times the price!
Get ready for next week, as we have more funny kid stories, some confessions and answers to all the questions you can catch on socials this week.

Get ready for funny teacher gifts and parent interview stories, some embarrassing confessions and an intro to Bluey world!
Starting with a bad joke, Bec's worried she's now given Sam the opportunity to start telling dad jokes again.
Catching up with yays & nays, Bec's yaying her funny middle child comment and naying the sickness sharing. Sam's yaying Bluey world and naying the kids' short attention span after a painful train ride on the weekend that started well and went downhill from there.
This week we have a lot of stories sent in by teachers of funny parent-teacher interviews and some interesting gifts they've received.
The confessional is open with 3 parent stories, including a funny, embarrassing moment in a public bathroom, a misunderstanding at home and a breastfeeding mom feeling the love from her older child.
In parent news, we are sharing about the noise-making lines on the highway, playing Beethoven's Ninth, Ode to Joy. We also share the hyper-realistic doll craze that has this year taken over in Brazil and resulted in bills being brought to parliament to manage it.
To finish, we take you through a brief walk-through of our Bluey's World visit, giving you an overview and previewing what will be a special deep-dive episode. Stay tuned!

This week's full of pregnancy hormone crying stories, parenting situations that have backfired on them, parent news and more.
Starting with yays and nays - Bec is yaying the cute support card from her daughter before a big work meeting, and naying how overshadowed her amazing birthday cake for the 4yo was by the real life dinosaur that was Sam in a t-rex suit that showed up (not that she'd change it!). Sam is yaying the kids cute gratitude and belief in dad-strength, while naying his ability to open a banana wrong (according to the 1yo).
We share stories sent in from pregnant mums about what they've cried over, from their husband picking the wrong imaginary fish, to the shops being out of food and a TV never finding love - pregnancy is a wild ride!
Then we have the answers to the question we asked on Facebook this week - what's the parenting thing that backfired on you? White lies or great ideas that just didn't work out as planned. From some little and not so little lies to unknown allergies, to kids calling bluffs - these stories are just a few ways parenting can backfire on you!
We wrap this episode with two parent news stories. One a single mother booted off a zoom courtroom for making PB&J, the other another Bluey update.
If you've made it this far in the description we will be forever grateful if you show the podcast some love by liking/rating/reviewing/subscribing and sharing it with a friend.

This week's episode is packed full of confessions and funny stories sent in by parents!
So we get straight to it, kicking off with a quick parent catch-up. Sam is yaying parent friends and being social with kids, while naying a toilet training fail. Bec is yaying almost being a tooth fairy and naying the never-ending piles of kids' clothes.
The confessional this week is again full of parent confessions that really could be parent hacks, including telling the kids the toys at Kmart are a museum, video game power outages and changing the language settings on Netflix for bedtime!
School fails and tales had heaps of funny stories sent it (thank you parents!). We had funny teacher stories, a shocking parent-teacher interview, mooning incidents, teacher underwear and riding horses to school!
We wrap up with parent news stories - the weird event edition.
First, we covered the annual T-Rex World Championship Race. Then the lost and found Disneyland market events, where people can buy lost items, and there's more than you'd think! And our third story is the Spanish El Colacho festival, which one town celebrates with baby jumping!
Listen for more and follow us on socials to see the questions and story requests we send out!

This week, we are bringing you something helpful for a change! We asked, 'What's the thing you thought was overrated and actually found helpful when becoming a parent?' Things included SLEEP, bottle grass, swaddling, baby wipes, WD40 and zippers.

Then we start with the gender reveal - and the resounding response from our socials was people do NOT appreciate them. And after discovering the amount of damage they've done, we get it.
First, we cover some cringy ones. Funny gender reveals that make you say 'oh no'.

Laugh along with more funny stories from parents, Bluey news and Bec's existential ageing celebrity crisis!
Kicking it off with our yays and nays - Sam has been away for work again and Bec's so glad he's home. But her real yay is getting to watch Mackenzie, their daughter, grow up - soon to be getting a visit from the tooth fairy! But the nay is that she's gone into another range of clothing sizes and there are shockingly few age-appropriate options! Sam is double naying his travel, coming home to a baby saying so many more words and how expensive it is to travel with kids.
We know we promised gender reveal stories this week, but the stories and debates are still happening, so we are holding off for next week. Get your gender reveal fail, funny story or opinion to us so you don't miss it!
Then we have some funny kid stories from parents this week. With an interesting religion lesson, a 2-year-old screaming for help and lots of crying toddlers - there's lots of relatable laughs here.
In parents in the news we have a Bluey story with the one year anniversary of The Sign special episode, Elon Musk's dad fail getting him punched in the face, and a sleepy Norwegian who has dad sleep skills.
Then we play a celebrity quiz while Bec works out her disbelief at how quickly time is going by.
From David Attenborough (he is 99!) to Operah (70!) - millennial parents, you'll have a great laugh but also feel a little old!

We asked what's the most unexpected or funniest phase your kid went through. From toddlers to teenagers, the answers had us laughing!
But first, did you know elephants are pregnant for 22 months? All the mums say 'Ouch".
Sam kicks off the yays and nays this week by yaying a cute daddy-daughter date, and naying the sleeping bag houdini almost burning the house down. Bec is yaying the boon clutch dishwasher object (asking what gimmic-y item did you least expect to love!), and naying crushing her sons dreams because all he wants to be when he grows up is the one thing he can't be - a dinosaur.
Next up is the wild phases parents shared of what their kids had been through. From fussy food phases, a gross one or two, through to teenage drama, we share some of the things you wouldn't expect becoming a parent!
Finishing with a parents in the news episode, on a unique gender reveal with a captive aeroplane audience at 30,000 feet, we ask the question for next episode: what's the wildest gender reveal you've seen? Send us the fails too and comment to tell us whether you are for or against the gender reveal parties - and come back to hear the stories!

This week we have kids fessing up to their own confessionals, plus parent news on baby names, museums and active labor news.
But first, we catch up and discover this episode is a new one - recording with the 3 year old in the episode. Sam will do his best to cut out interruptions, but there's nothing more unhelpful parenting than this!
We start with our catch ups, talking yays and nays from our weekend away. Bec is laughing at Sam getting mistaken for one of the 'ladies' at their fancy dinner, and naying his new winking habit. Sam's yaying the massage on the weekend away, while being sad how quickly it came undone! His nay is the school hats and their never-ending disappearance!
That reminds Bec of her extra nay - catching the 3yo colouring in the school hat while she was on the phone with her brother.
Then we head to the confessional, but this confessional comes packed with stories from kids fessing up to what they did to their parents! New parenting fears unlocked!
We have edited report cards, learning to drive, sugar on a drum kit, signs in the car, gross water deliveries and 'accidental' edibles.
Parents in the news is back with 3 stories this week.
1. Another story from Japan after last week's - where they have had a baby name law reform, banning a long list of names and requiring parents to determine the pronunciation to avoid extra meanings.
2. After last week's kid being put in a coffin at a museum, we had ANOTHER museum fail, with an American tourist impaling himself at the Colosseum. So parents beware!
3. Last week, a mother went through labour live on the news. As a morning news anchor, Olivia Jaquith delivered the news and then delivered her baby.
Come back next week and send us your stories! We've put the call out for funny labour stories, and funny phases your kids have gone through. Follow us on socials and message us your stories!

This week's episode is answering more of 'what's the strangest thing your kid has done', with parent news and a few funny parent side tangents!
Kicking off with yays and nays, Sam & Bec catch up on their week to start. Bec's yaying the sick cuddly cuddles (but not the sick obviously!), while naying the fact that they spent a whole day at the zoo with a friend and barely got a good conversation in thanks to the interruptions.
Sam is naying the sick (even though he didn't clean up ANYTHING!) while yaying the hilarious story of sharing killer whale videos with the 6yo and the confusion of what was happening to the seal...
Parent news is up next, with two stories from Japan! We've got a baby store photo that has not aged well, and looks more like a baby store of horrors! And then the Japanese government's decision to start a dating app to address declining birth rates.
We head to the news archives for a story from years ago of parents who messed up big time - crossing a barrier to put a kid in a coffin for a photo, and knocking it over and breaking it. Unfortunately not the only story like this, with lots of artworks and historic artifact victims!
Then we share more answers to the question: 'What's the strangest thing you've witnessed your child do?' With kids licking shed, playing with bird guts, eating beetroot with ice cream and issuing threats to strangers.

Get ready for all the answers to the question: What's the strangest thing you've witnessed your kid do? We have gross-weird, funny-weird, and creepy-weird stories from parents!
First, we jump into the episode with a Frozen easter egg from Bec (but Sam doesn't think it counts).
Our weekly catch-up with yays and nays has Sam naying the nepotism of North West's Disney performance, but yaying his self care hair cut. Bec is yaying Sam being home (and the recovery required from being solo with three young kids!) and naying the mom wardrobe conundrum.
Then we start going through stories sent in of the strangest things kids have done - noting there were so many we will be doing this next week as well (so send us your stories if you haven't already!).
We've got kids pulling off doll heads, convincing other kids to eat cockroaches, rinsing their hands in the toilet, incubating eggs and talking to people who aren't there (or are they?). And that's only a few!
Then we've got parent news talking all about the accidental jello shots taken to a kindergarten party in Pennsylvania this week, off the back of a mother being arrested in Texas after 'accidentally' giving jello shots to fifth graders.
Plus, we finish with a wholesome story of the California wildlife centre who've gone viral after feeding a bear cub in costumes (and you thought feeding a toddler was hard!).
A big thank you to all the parents who sent in their funny stories this week, and make sure you send us the strange things your kids do ready for the next episode!
Follow us on socials for more behind-the-scenes and to be a part of answering questions for the podcast (plus there is lots of funny posts to share!).
Happy parenting this week!

We asked 'what's the funniest thing your kid has said?' PLUS we have funny parent stories waiting in the confessional with some parent news to finish.
But first, we start by sharing about our mother's day and how Bec got beautiful gifts that made her want only one thing more - which involves a day procedure for Sam (#snip). Sam also shares about his new name from the 3 year old (you may now call him poo-poo-bum-bum-head).
Then we share the new stories we've got of kids saying the darndest things. From bacon to birth control and but filles and hop grassers - kids are just hilarious.
From there, we enter the confessional, with 5 funny parenting stories. There's a couple of parent fails and a couple of wild parent life stories.
Then in parents in the news, we've got one for the lego lovers (or turtle lovers). You'll get to meet Root, the turtle making his rounds in the Museum thanks to a lego device. We've also got the story of a Kangaroo in a diaper, seen hopping down Main Street in Colorado. It's one thing to get a toddler in a nappy - but what about a Kangaroo?!
Enjoy the laughs, leave us some love and share this with your parent friends!

"what's the funniest thing your kid has cried over?" Get ready to laugh this episode because it is FULL of stories from parents, mostly funny stories full of tantrums and tears of kids of all ages.
First, Sam & Bec catch up with their yays and nays. Bec's yaying (finally) implementing a job's list for the kids, and them being in the honeymoon phase and enjoying it (for now!). She's naying the hilarious and slightly embarrassing moment the 3yo mistook someone else for her and lifted another lady's dress in public. Sam is naying the jobs list because Bec has insited on handwriting it when he wants the fancy digital option, but yaying a fun weekend with the kids.
After that catchup, we dive into 20+ reasons parents have found their kids crying - and we are laughing!
From tired tantrums over being given what they want, to wild imaginary situations, we are laughing along with these parents in the podcast.
To finish it off, Bec has a quick parents in the news segment as an important reminder to put purchase notifications on your phone and passcode protect your payment options before giving them to your kids (unless you like having 60k+ lollipops delivered to your door!).
Come back next week as we ask the question 'What's the funniest thing your kid's said?'

The parent confessions keep coming! With parent fail stories and funny moments - here's what's coming in this episode...
We start with the hard-hitting questions first - are sprinkles overrated? Cast your vote in the comments for this important parenting debate!
Catching up with our yays and nays - Bec is laughing at overhearing the kids' conversations, grossed out by missing showers and baffled by the youngest's first 100 words that have been heavily influenced by his 3yo brother. Sam is having a great week booking family holidays in for the year (better late than never!) and naying sharing a bed with the 6yo who's wiggling left him in agony after being unexpectedly kneed in the groin during the night!
Into the confessional and we have adult content warnings with kids getting into mums bedside table, unfortunate baby blowouts, automated public toilets, cupboard poops, whinging kids, kids terrorizing nanna's arm fat and a refusing to get out of the bath turned fail. All in all - one big giant laugh and a reminder that you're not alone in the trenches of parenthood.
Bec can't let an episode go by without her parents in the news - and thank you to the people tagging her in stories! This week we are boycotting Uber after a mortifying experience a family had. And you won't believe Uber's response!
Then we talk about pocket money inflation, and avoiding Sam getting on his soapbox about the price of cheese again.
As always, we are asking questions and requesting stories on our socials, so make sure you're following us and sending us your stories! Or, use our website to contact us and share the laughs!
