We dive deep into the Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS) project – an exciting global initiative to build an AI and solar-powered marine research vessel capable of traversing oceans gathering vital environmental data. The project is led by marine research non-profit ProMare with support from IBM and a global consortium of partners. We talk to the people involved, the challenges and technologies behind it, and the vision for the future of ocean research. We also look at the synergies between ocean and space exploration, and what lessons can be transferred from one “final frontier” to another.

Our guests are Don Scott, the Chief Technology Officer for the Mayflower Autonomous Ship and MarineAI - a new start-up focussed on the development of commercial AI Captain systems. Alongside Don is Rob High, IBM’s Chief Technology Officer for edge computing - another theme we’ll be exploring today.
