The Third Beer Podcast

The Third Beer is a regular Podcast hosted by Psychologist Chris Dickson and Brett McCallum. Each week they invite a special guest into the studio to talk about men’s health, mental health and general wellbeing whilst sharing a few beers. The focus is on those subjects that blokes find it hard to talk about. Brett has already shared a year-long mental health journey with the help of Chris, and although he is still a work-in-progress, Brett has seen himself become a better human being. While the chat with each week’s special guest will take place in a very informal setting and with an informal style, the conversation and topics are taken 100% seriously. Lets break down personal and world issues, one beer at a time.

The Third Beer Episode 15 Dr Kelly Bowers
This week The Third Beer podcast mixes things up and Kieron Byrne joins Chris Dickson as co-host. You will remember Kieron from episode two. Our guest is Dr Kelly Bowers. So what happens when you put three psychologists in a room? We explore Kieron’s expertise and how optimal performance can be achieved generally, and within all levels of sport. Performance for soldiers, astronauts and explorers is thrown in the mix. The trio analyse the Australian sporting culture of ‘winners take all’ and how may be destructive to the entire industry starting in schools, and ending at the top. Both Kieron and Kelly work with young athletes and offer alternative futures for coaching and parenting to produce more resilient sportspeople with longer careers. As usual, it’s a podcast daring to raise questions many are too afraid to ask, and the answers are both positive and entirely achievable.
