“Upon graduating from IUP, I started my career with my uncle, selling grocery and HBC items to national wholesale and retail accounts primarily on the East Coast. I took some dead accounts, developed relationships with the buyers, and turned them into market leaders. I then moved on to SUPERVALU in Charleston, South Carolina as an HBC buyer and secondary wholesale sales consultant, where I developed a profit center for the Southeast market. I then moved back to Pittsburgh in 1994 and worked for Thrift Drug Inc, the sixth-largest Drugstore in the U.S. I started as the grocery buyer and was promoted to secondary wholesale manager and Pharmaceutical sourcing consultant. After Thrift Drug merged with Ecker Drug and offices were moved to Florida, I started my own company Steel City Trading. There I was importing nationally branded products from Canada and selling to wholesale and retail accounts in the U.S. simultaneously; I went to work for GNC in downtown Pittsburgh as a Senior buyer for the Sports Nutrition category. All this experience in purchasing, sales, contract negotiation, and inventory management lends itself well to what I do today. Running a restaurant is managing people, managing inventory, listening to your guests to see what they are hungry for, and motivating your staff to provide excellent service and create an experience that will bring patrons back. I am honored to serve the people of Oakmont and the surrounding communities; I thank you for all your support through the pandemic and this overall challenging yet exciting year. I look forward to making Casey’s a part of your family’s history like Oakmont is for mine.” - Frank Pernice
