The Spiritual Trap of Idolatry [SFP085]
In this solo episode, I dive into a topic I’ve been wrestling with recently - how we so often chase spiritual fulfilment in the wrong places. It’s something I’ve noticed in myself repeatedly, whether through my obsession with curating the perfect music playlist, my need to experience everything in travel, or the way I’ve thrown myself wholeheartedly into work and other pursuits. Each time, it felt like I was looking for something deeper, something meaningful, but in places where it could never really be found. I reflect on the idea of idolatry—turning material things or experiences into false gods—and how this theme shows up in the teachings of Christianity and other philosophies, like Buddhism’s emphasis on non-attachment. Why are we so drawn to seeking spiritual satisfaction in things that ultimately leave us unfulfilled? Is this a flaw in human nature or a challenge by God for us to reject the temptations of the material and instead be guided by something greater? This episode is a short and sweet. It’s a reminder to myself - and maybe to you as well - that true spiritual fulfilment won’t be found in the material. Instead, it requires us to shift our focus toward the immaterial, toward the source, toward God. I hope these musings resonate with you as much as they’ve helped me work through my own questions.
