Episode 180: Do You Lead By Serving? With Ken Blanchard
“[With servant leadership] You philosophically turn the pyramid upside down and you work for your people. Your job is to help them win.”
Ken Blanchard is the authority on leadership and management in the workplace, and we’re diving into what servant leadership looks like, from both a managerial and entrepreneurial perspective. Ken breaks down what leadership is and isn’t, how a servant leader differs from a manager, the ways a work culture changes when leaders are focused on being servants, and the ways that Ken has implemented servant leadership in his own business.
Wondering how to create a culture for your business that breeds positivity and great results? Listen in to find out how!

Highlights of This Episode:

* Why servant leadership resonates with so many people (9:43)
* Why it’s time to embrace a new form of leadership in our culture (10:28)
* The biggest barriers for creating a culture of servant leadership (12:57)

Insights from Ken:
What’s a must-read for impact entrepreneurs?

* The One Minute Entrepreneur

What’s the single-most important trait for entrepreneurs?

The first one is the most important, which is the test of joy. If you don’t love what you do, you shouldn’t be an entrepreneur. If you’re becoming an entrepreneur to make money, it’s going to be draining. You have to love what you do.

Who’s the most interesting person you’ve ever met?

Norman Vincent Peale

What are you better at than anyone else?

Working with other people. I think it’s one of the reasons I’m excited about servant leadership in action. I’m not competitive, I want to build other people up.

What idea or belief do very few people agree with you about?

We need to push people on positive environments and catching people doing things right and accentuating the positive.

What’s the best business advice you’ve ever received?

When you’re thinking about starting your own business, think about these four things. 1) Sales have to exceed expenses, 2) Collect your bills, 3) Take care of your customers, 4) Take care of your people. Those are really good things for entrepreneurs to remember. If you do that, you’re gonna probably be successful.
