When Isaiah wrote this prophecy hundreds of years before Jesus came, he was speaking of the Messiah’s suffering. “Stripes” refers to the bloody wounds Jesus received when He was beaten with a whip before His crucifixion (Matthew 27:26). The lashes tore His skin and in God’s plan, those wounds became the price for our healing.
