In the third and final part of this series on translation science, Matthew interviews Dr. Chris Austin, SVP of Research Technologies at GSK, about what the future holds for translational science.


Chris discusses the innovations that will help us figure out new and more rapid ways to develop therapeutics. As part of this Chris explains how data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence will play a key role in these advancements. Additionally, Chris discusses the importance and challenges of generating data that can serve multiple purposes across all stages of biomedical translation; Chris highlights the important role that collaboration has in this process. Chris and Matthew also discuss the EHR and the roll that it will play in the advancement of translational science. Chris also offers insight into the challenges behind using EHRs for translational science. Finally, Chris gives insight into the kinds of skills a person early on in their career needs to focus on building to set themselves up for a career doing translational science.
