Climate finance opportunities in Africa
Africa contributes less than 4% to the global greenhouse gas emissions but is a continent worst impacted by climate change. The African Development Bank has promised to mobilise US$25bn billion in climate finance over the next three years. This is not going nearly enough for Africa to counter the risk of droughts, floods and desertification that threatens its future. For Africa to adequately finance the challenge of climate it will need attract private sector capital. As world leaders gather in Glasgow, UK for the UN climate change summit (COP26) we speak to Gareth Phillips, Manager of the Climate and Environment Finance at the African Development Bank (AfDB) and find out what opportunities exist for Asian investors as Africa adapts to climate change.
