Have you ever wondered what a Professional Colorist does? π¨
First, don't make the same mistake that I did thinking a Colorist is the same as a Cosmetologist - they aren't the same thing π
Digital Colorists are the ones who step in during a movie's editing stage (Post-Production) to correct and color-grade footage. In Layman's terms, they adjust and balance the Contrast, Exposure, Saturation, Vibrance and a million other things that make movies look as incredible as they do today.
Many Colorists are now even finding themselves in Pre-Production working with Directors and Cinematographers to create LUTs (look-up tables) which are simply specific color presets that filmmakers can readily turn to when working on a project, kind of like filters on your phone.
However, Freelancing as a Colorist has become more challenging due to the advances in technology and lowered expectations of directors.
So to help us find out if you can still make money as a Freelancer in this Industry, we invited Director, Producer and Professional Colorist Marshal Davis to the Shed.
