Trump Dodges China Taiwan Question at White House
Originally aired: Feb 27, 2025
Donald Trump refused to answer whether the United States would prevent China from taking Taiwan by force. During a White House press conference, Trump declined to comment on US policy, saying, "I never comment on that." His stance marks a contrast to his predecessor, Joe Biden, who had vowed to defend Taiwan militarily. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to opposing any coercive change in Taiwan’s status. With tensions rising in the Indo-Pacific, is the US shifting towards a more ambiguous stance on Taiwan?
