The Scholarship Podcast: Higher Education Navigation for Minoritized people is a placewhere we talk about the finances of navigating the academy for minoritized people. We’ll probably focus on graduate student funding and avoiding student loan debt, but we’ll also talk about what to do when you get to the ivory tower, navigating graduate student life, and life after grad school. I’m your host, Nicollette Mitchell. Full time mom, full time graduate student, former administrator (for now), and full time cheerleader for minoritized people who want to navigate the academy with financial finesse.

Episode 1: Welcome to ScholarShip, the podcast about financially navigating the academy

Hello and welcome to the ScholarShip: Navigating the Academy Podcast, where we talk about the finances of navigating the academy for minoritized people. We’ll probably focus on graduate student funding and avoiding student loan debt, but we’ll also talk about what to do when you get to the ivory tower, navigating graduate student life, and life after grad school. This is our first episode (yay!)

I’m your host, Nicollette Mitchell. Full time mom, full time graduate student, former administrator (for now), and full time cheerleader for minoritized people who want to navigate the academy with financial finesse.

I want to share the hidden curriculum, from the perspective of a minoritized person in the academy, with anyone who seeks this knowledge and anyone who would benefit from in-depth conversations about graduate student funding, finances, and navigating the academy as a minoritized person.

If just one person :

avoids loans,

is able to negotiate for more,

is able to apply with more finesse,

is able to be more fully supported in their journey,

successfully navigates the academy,

becomes a professor,

Levels up their career

And does it with financial finesse

that would make this whole thing a success to me.
