A designer-run podcast that explores the work, philosophical underpinnings, methodologies, and perspectives of creatives within the realm of spatial design. Spatial design has often been depicted through the narratives of established publications: meticulously curated images, clickbait articles, and celebrity or influencer endorsements. Venturing beyond interior design and architecture, The Right Angle features voices from textile designers to real estate developers and just about everything in between.

E11: Jonathan Elmore, Former Creative Director at Grain

[This episode was recorded during Covid when Jonathan was the Creative Director at Grain] In this episode of The Right Angle Podcast, Elle Liu interviews Jonathan Elmore, Creative Director at Grain, a studio that crafts beautiful physical and digital experiences to bring to life the visions of architects, designers and property developers. Grain combines the science of architecture with the art of design to create CGI and interactive experiences that their clients fall in love with. As a London based firm, Jonathan joined them to establish their New York City office.

Prior to joining Grain, Jonathan followed a very unconventional career background. He spent 5 years in the Marine Corp, as the Crew Chief of CH53E Super Stallion Helicopter. After his military service, Jonathan graduated with an architecture degree and began his career at Rockwell Group before eventually finding his way into the CGI world.

Jonathan has worked with some of the biggest real estate developers and architecture firms in the world. His diverse visualization projects including 35 Hudson Yards, Manhattan West, Lantern House in NYC; the Coconut Grove in Miami, Florida; M3 condos at MCity in Mississauga, Ontario and Victoria Place in Honolulu, Hawaii.

I’m excited to have Jonathan here with us today, his super power is creating graphical stories for buildings with his rare combination of creative skills from architecture school and problem solving skills that he picked up in the Marine Corp.
