Let's create a positive mindset for you!

Grab a cup of positive it-tea and sit back and enjoy the show. This topic is going to take a bit to unpack because mindset isn't something you can buy and it's not like you can flip a switch and things change. It takes consistent habits to get to where you want and need to be. I want to also be mindful of trigger warnings and that this may stir up some unwanted shit for you. But in order to move past the darkness, we have to shine light on it.

You are like the 5 people you hang around. Take an objective view on those people. Be an outsider for a second. Do you really want to be like that?

We are all wired differently and that's ok. There's no right or wrong way, but if you're listening to this right now, my guess is that you would like to have more of a positive outlook on things.

Let's first unpack a bit of your history… think back to a time when you were younger that had a significant impact on you. Can you think of something negative about the situation? What happened? How did you feel? How did you react?

Use my boss as an example.

Now, this is the piece that often goes missed…. what's a positive that came out of it?

The first key is awareness. Awareness that you're negative. That can be draining to people around you, but to some people who like that can be fueled.

My mom always takes these panicking breaths. You know the ones where you go HUHHHH! You just sucked in all that negative energy and often have never released it. Let the shit go! Blow it out!!!!

Every situation you come across happens for you, not to you. Meaning that person that cut you off on the way to work making you stop on the side of the road and take a break. May have saved you from an accident.

Actionable steps:

  1. Over the next week be aware of your thoughts and how you speak. Are they negative? Do you play into self-deprecating humor like I did?
  2. Start tracking 3 positives each day. These can be wins, positive interactions, compliments, etc.
  3. Every situation you come up against where you have a negative reaction or a response you wish you would have reacted better too, reflect on it. What's a positive that came out of the situation? How could you have reacted differently?
  4. Share this with someone you love and care about
