Growing Up Non-Mormon in Utah: A Journey from Judgment to Empathy
In this episode, I reflect on my experience growing up in Utah as a non-Mormon surrounded by the dominant Mormon culture. As a young girl, I often wondered why my family was the odd one out, and I carried feelings of pride and prejudice, believing I knew better and thinking Mormons were in a cult. But over time, my perspective has evolved. Now, I see how much I have in common with those I once judged, realizing that I, too, grew up within the confines of church teachings. Today, I no longer say Mormons are wrong. Instead, I hope they—and all of us—know that we have the freedom to question, choose, and discover what truly resonates with our beliefs.
