In 2018, Maine became the first state in the nation to use ranked-choice voting in federal elections after its residents voted for it in 2016. The implementation faced numerous challenges that involved the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, a delay effort by the legislature, and another referendum campaign. Movements to expand RCV in the state continue to face obstacles as well. In this episode, Auston and Nikita sit down with former state Rep. Diane Russell to dive deep into the history of RCV in state and how the rest of the country can learn from Maine.
