Bert de Jong is a senior scientist at Berkeley Lab, and currently serves as the Department Head for Computational Sciences, and the interim lead for the Applied Computing for Scientific Discovery Group .
de Jong is the Director of the $25M/year National Quantum Initiative Quantum Systems Accelerator that involves 15 institutions and over 450 scientists. He is also the team director of the new large multi-institutional, 5 year MACH-Q project funded under the DOE ASCR Accelerated Research in Quantum Computing (ARQC) program, focused on advancing quantum algorithms and software integrated development environments. He is a co-PI on two science with quantum focused projects in DOE Basic Energy Sciences and DOE High-energy Physics.

Dr. Davis is a physicist entrepreneur with an emphasis on new technology transition from the laboratory to manufacturing. During its annual March meeting, APS celebrated the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology with a week-long Quantum Fest. The two directors of the event combined their scientific expertise with their love for art to tell stories of quantum physics. Professor Smitha Vishveshwara is a faculty member of the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and also affiliated with the university’s Materials Research Laboratory and Beckman Institute. She is a member of the International Year of Quantum steering committee and organized the Quantum Fest celebration at the APS March Meeting. She is also the co-author with her father of the book, “Two Revolutions: Einstein’s Relativity and Quantum Physics.”
In 2021, Marilena Longobardi joined the University of Basel, where she currently serves as Managing Director of the NCCR SPIN. She is recognized as an expert in innovation and international scientific relations and holds multiple leadership roles on various boards. She was named one of the Inspiring Fifty Women in Tech in 2021 and 2023, and was elected an American Physics Society Fellow in 2022. She designed and co-directed with Smitha Vishveshwara, the Quantum Fest for the APS Global Physics Summit in 2025. Marilena holds a Ph.D. in Quantum Physics from the University of Salerno, Italy.

Dr. Frederik F. Flöther is Chief Quantum Officer at QuantumBasel, the first commercial quantum hub of Switzerland, and a member of the University of Basel Center for Quantum Computing and Quantum Coherence (QC2). Prior to that, Frederik has over 7 years with IBM, most recently responsible for healthcare and life sciences at IBM Quantum. He was elected to the IBM Academy of Technology and appointed Master Inventor and Qiskit Advocate.
Frederik’s research interests include technological applications as well as philosophical/societal implications of quantum computing and AI. He holds a PhD in physics, with a focus on photonic quantum computing, and a MA, MSci, and BA from the University of Cambridge as well as a professional certificate in quantum computing applications from MIT. In total, Frederik has authored over 40 filed patents, peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and white papers. He has lived/worked in Switzerland, USA, United Kingdom, Belgium, and Germany.

Niels Bultink is the CEO and co-founder of Qblox, a leading provider of scalable quantum control stacks. Niels has a PhD from TU Delft in quantum information processing. He specializes in controlling quantum computers, performing the first feedback on solid-state qubits in 2012. Nancy Kawalek is Professor and Distinguished Fellow in the Arts, Sciences and Technology at the University of Chicago. As Director of the STAGE Lab at the Pritzker School for Molecular Engineering, her research focuses on the creation and development of artistic endeavors inspired by science and technology, using a collaborative process modeled after the exploratory investigations of experimental science. Some of her recent projects include the Quantum Casino, a suite of card and digital games based on core principles of quantum mechanics; Curiosity: The Making of a Scientist, a documentary series that investigates the human side of science; and Entanglement, a multimedia theatre piece that harnesses the power of storytelling to bring an understanding of quantum physics to the public. Additionally, Kawalek has over twenty-five years of experience in the professional theatre world as an actor, director, and writer, working on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in regional theatres across the United States, as well as in film and television.
