In this episode, Dan and Josh tackle the complexities of the creative “soul source,” Spotlight’s term for where your ideas come from. The soul source is the literal source or origin of an individual’s creative impulse and talents, or “where your creativity comes from,” as Dan puts it. Identifying and examining your soul source can be of enormous value to an artist.
The soul source defies easy definition or analysis, operating on an intuitive or spiritual level, but Josh and Dan do their best to delineate it. This wide-ranging conversation touches on the nature of human consciousness, the limits of human language, and why Gandalf the White is Josh’s personal manifestation of creativity.
