"The Pulse"- Developing Musicianship/ Spring Semester Focus - Episode #3

The Music Initiative Project and Consortium presents its 3rd episode. We will focus on a discussion with Mr. Keavon Runnels (Stephen F. Austin High School- Houston ISD) and Professor Antonio Barrino (Former Asst. Director- Grambling State University) about their experiences with urban band programs. Also, conversations about improving band member’s musicianship for the next school year during the spring semester. A discussion of a few instructional methods or techniques. Then, on the flip side, the importance of participating in the Texas UIL Concert & Sightreading Evaluation or state concert band festival. The conversation will include benefits, or lack thereof, of the "parade season!" How does participation in parades improve band programs’ performance abilities and/or extrinsic motivation? This will be a two part series.
