Are you a Christian mental health professional who desires a fulfilling counseling career that positively impacts others and aligns with your God-given purpose? Do you dream of starting your own private practice but don’t know where to begin? Are you searching for direction in how to operate as a clinician in today’s culture in a way that aligns with your faith? In this podcast, you will find practical steps, strategies, and solutions that will help you create a flourishing therapy practice that aligns with both your dreams and your values. It is my mission to empower Christian therapists and counselors to make a positive impact on the world through the development of strong business skills, clinical excellence, and growing in intimacy with God. If you are ready to leave behind uncertainty, escape burnout, and feel more confident in your ability to run a successful business that aligns with God’s heart and your desire to make a difference, this is the place for you. Hi, I’m Kimberly. I’m a Jesus-lover, business coach for mental health professionals, and private practice owner. Upon graduating with my MA in Clinical Psychology in 2012, I set out to positively impact the world for Christ through my work as a therapist. As a single, 24-year-old living in Los Angeles with over six figures of student loan debt, I struggled to find a job that spoke to my passion of Christian counseling, paid the bills, and did not result in quick burnout. However, I lacked knowledge of basic business skills and grappled internally with how to navigate working in a culture that often conflicted with my Christian faith. I wondered how I could provide Christian counseling in a way that was legal and ethical while aligning my clients with the truth. In 2015, I started building my private practice from scratch. Several times I nearly closed its doors, ready to settle for the consistent paycheck that came from the schools and agencies I was working for, despite being underpaid, overworked, and seeing clients that were not a great fit for me. Yet every time that I nearly quit, the Lord somehow made it very clear that his heart was for me to run my own business. I often struggled with feeling selfish for not wanting to work on weekends or evenings, feeling greedy for charging a decent hourly rate and feeling incompetent to counsel my clients through the many issues and concerns that they brought to me. I struggled with feeling weak for not enjoying seeing more than 4-5 clients a day. I finally realized that it was possible to have a practice that suited my needs and also served the needs of my clients. I finally realized that running my own business allows me to implement standards of excellence that allow clients to have a good experience with therapy. I finally realized that God not only cares about the clients that I wanted to help, but also cares significantly about me, my own wellbeing, and how I experience my life. If you are ready to make a greater impact on your clients while also being able to enjoy a career that meets your financial needs, doesn’t drain your emotional capacity, and aligns with your God-given purpose, then you are in the right place! So put on your cozy sweater, grab your mug of coffee, and let’s dive in!
