Extrovert and Electrical Engineer isn’t normally seen in the same sentence but this is exactly how you would describe Ryan. His gregarious nature would normally suit a Salesman or a Politician but Ryan is using his uncommon traits to his advantage in an industry where people are more often thinkers rather than doers. Having started our engineering degrees at Griffith University at the same time I know Ryan quite well. We both wanted to sit down and layout each of our stories to illustrate to everyone that we are normal graduates just like you with heaps of questions. In this episode we cover Ryan’s background, how he got into engineering, what he is currently doing in and outside of his day-to-day role and what he hopes to achieve by bringing a salesman & people person’s mindset to the engineering profession. Although very early on in his career, Ryan loves throwing himself into anything and everything then seeing what he can handle, what he loves most and what gives him the best return for his time. Being involved in the State Emergency Service (SES), Engineers Australia – Young Engineers Committee, GHD Young Professionals Committee, GHD Touch Footy Team, and GHD Football Team, it’s safe to say Ryan leads a busy lifestyle. The biggest takeaways from all of this activity? His ability to learn from different avenues and different people, and the opportunities that can be created by meeting people from different industries and business sectors.
