If I CAN’T DRIVE, then LET me COMMENTATE! – Chris McCarthy PASSes by 🇬🇧

ENG 🇬🇧

Chris McCarthy is used to telling other people’s stories, entertaining thousands of viewers, but he is equally magnetic when he tells his own. We at The Pass met him last year at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on the occasion of the ACI Racing Weekend, an event that Chris attended as the series commentator for FRECA. Throughout our Track Talk, Chris explained how he transformed the dream of becoming a driver into the dream of becoming a motorsport broadcaster.

An epileptic seizure brings his racing career to an end, but the Briton born in 1993 realises that he can’t abandon his passion. This leads him to borrow some cameras from his college to start filming karting races with a group of friends and he soon finds himself with a microphone in his hands. From the first experiences to a full-time job, commentating on prestigious championships, including F1 on F1 Kids, F2, F3, Porsche Supercup and WEC (becoming the “English voice” of the 24 Hours of Le Mans), while narrating the rise of young talents such as Oliver Bearman, Isack Hadjar and Gabriele Minì: a daily effort to stay in the world he loves after finding the courage to speak about fears and psychological challenges, which Chris told us about.

Currently preparing for a new season with LoudSpeaker Agency as a commentator for various series, after also commentating on the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, and working on the second edition of the Setting Purple Sectors charity event together with Young Epilepsy, Chris teaches that setting your goals as the final destination can make a difference because, no matter how many chicanes may be encountered, you can reach them even through longer and more winding paths.

ITA 🇮🇹
