When Matheus Morgatto talks about the moments that changed his life, it feels like going back in time and reliving them with him. We at The Pass met him last year at the Franciacorta Karting Track on the occasion of Round 2 of the WSK Final Cup, an event that Matheus attended to compete in the premier category of single-speed karting with the Birel ART Racing team. Throughout our Track Talk, Matheus went over his sporting and personal journey, also revealing that the choice to temporarily disconnect from the world he loved so much was crucial in allowing him to feel good again in that same world. 

After a first approach with motorbikes, the Brazilian born in 2003 finds himself on the seat of a go-kart at the age of seven and seems to immediately feel at ease. It’s only the first dive into a sport that becomes an essential part of his life over time, so much so that it leads him to move first to the United States and then to Europe, where he is crowned world champion in the premier class of single-speed karting and achieves a historic success, 24 years after the last Brazilian world-championship victory. This is how he builds an unthinkable career, learning to stay away from home, to take time for himself and to deal with some doubts, which Matheus told us about.

Currently racing in another karting season as a professional driver after having also tested some race cars, Matheus demonstrates that dreams can become reality even when you’re apparently moving away from them.

Quando Matheus Morgatto racconta i momenti che gli hanno cambiato la vita, sembra di tornare indietro nel tempo e riviverli insieme a lui. Noi di The Pass lo abbiamo incontrato l’anno scorso al Franciacorta Karting Track in occasione del Round 2 della WSK Final Cup, evento al quale Matheus era presente per competere nella categoria regina del karting monomarcia con il team Birel ART Racing. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Matheus ha ripercorso il suo viaggio sportivo e personale, svelando persino che la scelta di disconnettersi temporaneamente dal mondo che tanto amava è stata cruciale nel consentirgli di tornare a stare bene in quello stesso mondo. 

Dopo un primo approccio con le due ruote, il brasiliano classe 2003 si ritrova sul sedile di un go-kart a sette anni e sembra sentirsi subito a proprio agio. È solo il primo tuffo in uno sport che nel tempo diventa una parte imprescindibile della sua vita, tanto da portarlo a trasferirsi prima negli Stati Uniti e poi in Europa, dove si laurea campione del mondo nella classe regina del karting monomarcia e firma un successo storico, a 24 anni dall’ultima vittoria iridata di un pilota brasiliano. È così che si concretizza una carriera impensabile, imparando a stare lontano da casa, a prendersi del tempo per sé stesso e a gestire alcuni dubbi, di cui Matheus ci ha parlato.  

Attualmente impegnato in un’altra stagione kartistica da pilota professionista dopo aver provato anche alcune macchine da corsa, Matheus dimostra che i sogni possono diventare realtà anche quando ci si sta apparentemente allontanando dagli stessi.
