Parshas Vayikra: Essence Over Ego
Why does the Torah forbid yeast and honey in offerings, but require salt? The Rambam teaches it’s to distance us from idol worship. But the Lubavitcher Rebbe reveals something deeper: yeast and honey represent ego and external sweetness, while salt represents truth, humility, and inner essence.
When we approach G-d, we don’t need performance—we need presence. We prepare for redemption not by adding more, but by returning to who we truly are. The most powerful offerings come not from ego, but from essence.
