The Parents' Show was launched in October 2010 by local parents from St Albans with the aim of providing parents or anyone who cares for kids with up-to-date information and resources on the issues that matter to them.
The show is broadcast every Thursday evening from 7-8pm. Each week, we select a theme, as suggested by one of our listeners, and each week we get a top expert in the studio responding to listener questions and concerns. We also discuss local resources available to parents.
We have regular contributors giving us what's on guides for children and families, restaurant reviews for child-friendly establishments and advice on green parenting. To date, the show a whole host of topics - for example - eating disorders in children, autism, imaginative play for young children, adoption, puberty, school selection, weaning and family finances.

Talking about exotic pets and soccer skills for fitness
On this week’s Parents’ Show, Vivien meets up with Dean, owner of Creature Comforts in Harpenden, a local pet supplies store which can cater for a range of animals extending from the normal domestic dogs and cats then ferrets, right through to the more exotic pets such as snakes, geckos and even maybe sugar gliders as pictured (yes, we had to look that one up too).
Dean explains what parents should think about when their children ask for a tortoise, snake, or something more exotic, in terms of its maintenance costs, expected life span, feed costs, insurance and cages or in the case of reptiles, vivariums.
In part 2, we welcome back our Duke of Edinburgh Silver students who are volunteering with the parents show, as they talk to Julius from the Super Soccer School. He tells the boys how team sport is good for fitness, self-confidence and social skills, as well as the mental and physical health benefits it brings.
